Pre-existing ailment waiting period
A waiting period is a length of time during which no benefits are payable for a service or treatment. With OSHC you will not be covered for treatment during the first 12 months where the medical condition was in existence before you came to Australia - we call this a pre-existing ailment.
A pre-existing ailment is any ailment, illness or condition, the signs or symptoms of which were, in the opinion of a medical practitioner appointed by the Fund, in existence in the 6 months prior to the day of joining Bupa OSHC. Please note that pre-existing rules may apply even if the patient was not aware of the signs or symptoms.
However, if you’re transferring your health cover from another OSHC provider we’ll honour any waiting periods you've already served.
You may require a Medical Certificate to be completed for your claims within the first 12 months of joining Bupa OSHC.
