When to claim

Direct billing doctors and Participating Private Hospitals

Direct billing doctors and Participating Private hospitals invoice us directly, so you don't need to claim, but you’ll need to verify your Bupa Australia Australia OSHC medical cover by presenting your membership card and student photo ID.

However, if there is any difference between the bill and the benefit provided by OSHC cover – you’ll need to pay this amount.

Non-direct billing doctors (not specialists) and pharmacy bills

When you visit a non-direct billing doctor or pharmacy you will need to pay for your treatment or pharmaceutical items at the time. You can then claim your benefit back from Bupa Australia OSHC by following our instructions on how to claim.

Specialists and non-Participating Private Hospitals

If you’d like to pay specialist and non-Participating Private Hospital bills at the time, please follow the procedure for non-direct billing doctor and pharmacy bills above. If you choose not to pay the bill at the time, send the unpaid account to Bupa Australia OSHC, then:

  1. Bupa Australia OSHC will send you a cheque for your benefit amount, made payable to the service provider.
  2. Send the cheque, together with your payment for the balance of the bill to the service provider.
